Warped Tour Shoes

.           In honor of this year’s Warped Tour, I have put together a compilation of shoes made for band members playing in this year’s tour, as well as shoes that are themed on other bands performing.

First, of course, Dangerkids:

.Tyler, the clean vocalist for DK, wanted a nine-tailed fox concept for his shoes. The idea is very near and dear to his art, so I knew that I had to try and make the shoes as perfect as possible. I usually love going crazy with different colors, but I’m really happy with how the black and white came out for this design; I think that it’s clean and simple, representing Tyler’s design without using even more than one color. I think they came out extremely well and Tyler loves them!

Andy, the unclean vocalist for DK, has shoes that feature a typography/emblem concept. I incorporated lyrics of theirs into the shoes’ emblem, as well as DK’s logo. The design features a black/white/blue color palate, which is the same palate incorporated into their album, Collapse. Enjoy, Andy!!

Katie, the drummer for DK, loves Vegas, so what’s better than a gambling themed shoe? I designed the shoe to have a tattoo-esque style to it in its’ colors and design. Katie also loves traveling, so I incorporated a globe as well! Also included into the shoe is Katie herself, including her ever famous wavy beach hair!

.Jake, the bassist for DK, has shoes that feature one of my favorite designs; his shoes feature a ship lost at sea, with deep teal water, and stormy grey skies. The shoes also feature DK’s lyrics. I just love how they turned out!

.

.

I haven’t made Dangerkids’ newest member, Alex, shoes yet, but those are soon to come, so don’t fret!!

.

Next on the list? The Story So Far:

I made these shoes for an amazing client named Donovan. I loved the concept he had and couldn’t wait to get started on the shoes. The colors all came together so well, especially the blues and reds of the flower on the right shoe. They came out better than I could have ever hoped and I can’t wait to make another pair of shoes for such a supportive client!

The Devil Wears Prada is up next:

Each of the members of TDWP received album-inspired shoes. Chris, the lead guitarist, has shoes that have the album artwork from “With Roots Above and Branches Below.” I absolutely LOVE how these shoes came out. The task was daunting, to say the least, but all the hard work definitely shows in the finished product. I love the shading of the sky and how the black tree POPS out of the pastel-colored background. Enjoy, Chris!

Jeremy, the rhythm guitarist, is the proud owner of these 8:18-themed shoes. These shoes were a huge challenge, with figuring out exactly JUST what shade of purple the background was, and making the shoe look distorted and worn. When I finally finished them, my boyfriend admitted that he didn’t think I would be able to make it look as much like the album as I had, and proceeded to tell me that I was magic! I hope Jeremy thinks so as well!

Daniel, the drummer of TDWP, got an “All Seeing Eye” themed pair of shoes. I found the design in one of their tour posters and I loved the hot pinks in the hand wounds, and the lilac of the skin. I love the black outline of the white TDWP logo, which makes the whole design come together. I’m really proud of how this pair turned out!

The bassist of the band, Andy, received a “Fallen Angel” themed pair of shoes. The other band members say that these are their favorite pair. I think that red of the clouds contrasts the bright teal of the sky so well and the embossed logo fades into the sky perfectly. I loved painting these and even though they were tedious to paint, they turned out awesome!

Last, but not least, Mike, the vocalist of TDWP received easily the most detailed pair of shoes I have ever painted. The Plagues-themed shoes came out BEAUTIFULLY. Mike, being a man of few words, said but two sentences to me, the first being “Thank you so much!” and the second being, “Why the hell would you do this to yourself?!” Why I did this to myself, I probably couldn’t explain, but the hours upon hours of shading and layers and splatter alone, and then the tedious outlining on top of that all paid off in the finished product.

Last, but certainly not least, are Chunk! No Captain Chunk! Themed Shoes! These shoes feature the album artwork from Chunk!’s 2010 album, Something For Nothing. I absolutely love these shoes. The sky blends from bright yellow into orange, hot pink, and then magenta. The moon pops right out of the bright background and black streaks, and the tentacles of the sea monster are a beautiful purple.

.

.

I loved making every pair of these shoes and I am so happy to be so involved in the music scene I love. These shoes are each their own, representing a specific personality. I hope all the owners love them as much as I do! Happy Warped Tour!!

Warped Tour 2014

.              So, this week I went to Warped Tour, and it was a blast! It’s my third year attending Warped Tour, but my first representing Kim's ShoesShoes By Shea. I finally got to surprise Kimberly Marshall -fiancé of Tyler Smyth of Dangerkids- with her shoes, which are her early wedding present! Tyler and I carefully planned the secret kicks, making sure that they perfectly featured their cat, Jameson, and Kim’s favorite color, pink. I’m so happy with how the shoes came out and I’m even more happy that Kim loved the shoes so much!

.                 I loved being able to hang out with all of my friends in Dangerkids, whom I’ve known for almost a year now. A while back I made Tyler, Andy, Katie and Jake all pairs of shoes, which you can see here. The whole band has climbed so much since I first met them last October and I am so thrilled for them and how far they have come! They were my very first famous clients, and I couldn’t have asked for any better. I am so glad that all of us have stayed such good friends with all of them. They are all very special and I hold them close to my heart.

.               I also loved seeing The Devil Wears Prada perform. As you may recall, I made all of the members shoes a few months back. Mike, Chris, Andy, Jeremy and Daniel’s shoes can all also be found here. They had amazing sets on both days and I hope that they are enjoying their shoes. I also got to see Bowling For Soup -FINALLY!- Chunk! No Captain Chunk! and The Story So Far. But what was really exciting was getting to see Linkin Park perform at Ventura’s show with special guests including the one and only, Jeremy McKinnon -whose shoes can be found featured with Dangerkids’ and TDWP’s.

.

.          I had so much fun meeting many new friends and the Pomona and Ventura dates, and hopefully I will be making shoes for some of you very soon!

.

Until next year, Warped Tour!!

Self Help Festival 2014

IMG_2660So, if you’ve been following Shoes By Shea lately you have seen the Homesick Vans that have been being worked on! These shoes were made for Jeremy McKinnon of ADTR, who put on an amazing festival this year in San Bernardino, CA. I had so much fun the entire day, meeting tons of new friends and hopefully future clients too! The people I met were some of the nicest, sweetest people I’ve ever come across and I know that we will all keep in touch!  I finally got to give Jeremy his shoes, and gave them my cards because I really wanted to make Neil, Kevin, Josh and Alex shoes too but I didn’t have any of their sizes! Neil enthusiastically informed me he is a size 10.5, so I will probably get IMG_2712started on his design, although I have no idea how I would get them to him! My only regret is that I didn’t have more time to talk with the guys, but I guess that’s what meet and greets are like nowadays! All in all the day was perfect, the crowd was insane, the sets were spectacular and the people were bad ass! I hope all of you that went had an awesome time too!

Take Action Tour and Shoes By Shea

So last night I attended the Take Action Tour with Dangerkids, I Killed The Prom photo 2Queen, The Ghost Inside and The Devil Wears Prada. I have remained friends with the members of Dangerkids since meeting them on their tour with We Came As Romans back in Fall of 2013. When I heard about the Take Action Tour, I knew that I wanted to make TDWP shoes. I texted Tyler, the clean vocalist of Dangerkids and he right away got me the shoe sizes for the band. I worked super hard and painted all five members their own custom painted shoes! I brought them to the show last night in Pomona and photo 1-1 after Dangerkids went on, Tyler and I met up with Daniel, the drummer of TDWP. He took us to TDWP tour bus and and I gave Chris, Mike, Andy, Jeremy and Daniel their shoes. Chris had -unbeknownst  to me- been following my Instagram for months and had seen the progression of their shoes, but he had no idea that they were all for the band! He said he felt so honored to have received the shoes that he had seen painted from start to finish. Each member of the band was overly generous, kind and thankful for me giving them the shoes and I felt so honored to be able to make them happy. I got hugs, and “wows” and even some “Why would you put yourself through that?!’s.” I hope that I can continue my friendship with The Devil Wears Prada and all of their members going into the future. Thank you to Tyler, and all of the members of Dangerkids as well as the guys from TDWP. Thank you especially to Chris to your unending generosity and kindness and thank you also to Jeremy for posting my shoes on his Twitter and Instagram!
